Call for contributions to BETA-IATEFL E-Newsletter Issue 41

 Dear Colleagues,
We would like to invite you to contribute to the current issue of the BETA-IATEFL E-Newsletter (ISSN 1314-6874).
Please send your contributions to the editors at betaiatefl.publish@gmail.com by 15 June 2019. Submissions received after this date will be considered for publication in the subsequent issues of the E-Newsletter.
Your submissions can focus on (but may not be limited to) the following ELT  areas:

  • Your past and forthcoming class/ school/ university projects, events, and conferences;
  • Your thoughts and experiences from conferences, workshops, courses you have attended;
  • Yours or your students’ thoughts and experiences from external examinations and other forms of assessment;
  • A problem or some small-scale action/academic research, or even an idea for encouraging others to do such research, even jointly;
  • Your work in the field of ELT, sharing teaching/research tips and ideas, or your professional life narrative;
  • An interview with some of your students asking how they see English learning, what they read, what websites they follow, etc.

Please also confer with the most recent Style Guide instructions.

11th round of BETA competition now open!

Dear Colleagues,
We are happy to announce the 11th round of BETA competition open to all of you who would like to give it a try.
This year the conference is dedicated to Changing the World One Class at a Time: Getting Through to Students; the aim the event is to exchange practical ideas and research findings on a broad range of topics such as Blended Learning, Content and Language Integrated Learning, Global Issues, Literature, Media and Cultural Studies in ELT, Teacher Education and Development, Teaching English for Specific Purposes, Teaching Young Learners and Teenagers, Testing, Evaluation and Assessment. The competition is open to all English teachers and teacher trainers – members and non-members of BETA.
We believe that there are many of you who are ready to prepare a lesson focusing on practical teaching techniques for presenting grammar / vocabulary, or speaking, or reading, etc. Lessons for students at school (public or private) or university students are welcome. It will be highly appreciated if your lessons provide practical insights and solutions on getting through to students in this dynamic world including teaching language skills, integrating CLIL in the curriculum, cultural studies, assessment and evaluation, or the application of blended or e-learning in the ELT classroom.

The winning entries will be published in BETA-IATEFL E-Newsletter.
To enter the competition you have to prepare a lesson plan (see the attached template) and provide evidence of the outcomes of the lesson based on students’ perceptions of the lesson efficiency (e.g. results from structured questionnaires with the students), examples of assignments or works produced by the students as a follow-up of the lesson, comments from colleagues observing the delivered lesson.
Please, attach the lesson plan, all materials (handouts, course book pages, etc.) used during the lesson, evidence material of the positive effect of the lesson on students’ knowledge and skills in the target language, pictures / video of the classroom (optional) and email them not later than 30th April 2019 to betacon2019@gmail.com providing your name, contact number / e-mail and school / organization.

Official Representative Call – Poland

Dear BETA Member,
The International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language in Poland has invited you to participate in its 28th IATEFL POLAND Conference on 20-22 September 2019 in Gdańsk, Faculty of Social Sciences, the University of Gdańsk, the UG Campus in Oliwa, Gdańsk. The theme of the Conference is BEYOND THE HORIZON.

According to the partnership agreement, BETA-IATEFL will send one official representative whose conference registration fee, accommodation and meals will be covered by IATEFL POLAND. The official representative will have to give a presentation at the conference and write a report for BETA website within 15 days after the end of the convention. S/he is also expected to get more closely involved with the work of the association during the forthcoming 28th BETA-IATEFL Conference in Plovdiv.
